Generation

Price range
P75 → P25 of asking — the middle half of listings at that age sits inside this band. Outliers above and below excluded.
Down payment
MAS Notice 642 LTV cap applied to the age's median asking: 30% when OMV is up to S$20k, 40% above. Max loan tenure 7 years. Rows marked * mix both OMV buckets — we display the conservative 40% figure so the quote never under-states what a luxury-OMV listing at that age would actually require.
Availability
High when this age's listing share is ≥1.5× the model's uniform expectation, low when ≤0.6×, medium otherwise. Model-relative, so an evenly-spread model lands all-medium.

Brand reliability
Consumer-survey composite — JD Power · WhatCar · Consumer Reports. Same score for every variant of a given make.
Resale strength
100 − 3× annualised tangible-decay (COE-stripped). Fitted from each variant's asking-price-by-age regression then averaged at model level.
Peer set
Every same-segment model with ≥5 active PARF listings whose variants fit a depreciation curve. Practicality isn't plotted — it's a body-shape constant within the segment, so it would be the same for every dot.
Quadrants
The crosshair marks the segment median on each axis. Top-right (Safe Bets) is strong on both; top-left (Hidden Gems) holds value above what the brand reputation suggests; bottom-right (Bargain Buys) is well-built but depreciates fast — buy cheap; bottom-left (High Risk) is soft on both.

Verdict

Same modern B-engine BMW platform as the 3-Series G20/G21 — M440i (B58 inline-six) is the durable hero, 430i (B48) needs the same oil-discipline rule as every B48 platform. iDrive 7 / iDrive 8 (depending on build) is materially better than the iDrive 6 era of the F32 predecessor. All G20-era paperwork checks apply here: 2020-2022 starter-motor recall + IBS recall. G22 (coupe), G23 (convertible), G26 (Gran Coupe 5-door hatch) differ only in body style.

What's good

  • M440i (B58 inline-six) with full service history — same B58 family across the modern BMW range (M340i / X3 M40i / 540i / 740i / M240i). No chain story, no HPFP weakness; comfortable to 200k+ km when serviced. The most-confident pick on this generation.
  • Starter-motor + battery-sensor recalls already closed — same recalls as G20/G21 3-Series. Closed paperwork converts the headline 2020-2022 era flags to non-issues.

What to watch

  • A B48 430i whose service book shows only BMW's 30k km oil interval — same chain-guide-life rule as every B48 platform. Treat as if a refresh is on the horizon.
  • A 2020-2022 build with the starter-motor recall still open — magnetic-switch wear can short-circuit / overheat. Cheap fix at the dealer but paperwork is non-negotiable; verify via BMW VIN check (same as G20 3-Series).

Verdict

Post-LCI 440i (B58 inline-six, 2016+) is the durable hero — same B58 framing as the 5 / X3 / M2 lineage. Pre-Feb 2015 420i / 428i (N20/N26) carry the same chain-guide recall as F22 / F30 — paperwork required. 430i (B48, 2017+) needs the same oil-interval discipline as every other B48 platform. F36 Gran Coupe is the most practical body for SG (5-door hatch over the coupe / convertible).

What's good

  • Post-LCI 2017+ 440i with B58 inline-six — the B58 replaced the N55 at the LCI and is one of the most-durable modern BMW sixes; no chain story, no HPFP weakness. The most-confident pick across the F32/F33/F36 platform.
  • Pre-2015 420i / 428i with documented chain-guide replacement under BMW's extended warranty — the recall fix is real and BMW covered it. A receipt for the work converts the headline gen risk to a non-issue.

What to watch

  • 2014 - Feb 2015 420i / 428i (N20/N26) with no chain-guide replacement receipt — same affected build window as F22 / F30. Cold-start metallic rattle is the warning sign; failure cascades to bent valves + cracked pistons when caught late. Walk unless paperwork is in hand.
  • A B48 430i whose service book shows only BMW's 30k km oil interval — the recommended interval is too long for chain-guide life in SG heat; the same X1 F48 / X3 G01 oil-discipline rule applies. Treat as if a refresh is on the horizon.

Common questions about the BMW 4 Series

How much does a used BMW 4 Series cost in Singapore?
Most used BMW 4 Series on the market are around 5 years old, asking roughly S$166k–S$207k (typically about S$184k). That's the age with the widest choice — and the most sellers competing, so it's where you'll have the most room to bargain.
How much does a used BMW 4 Series depreciate per year?
A used BMW 4 Series loses value at a fairly steady pace — around 16% a year — with no real plateau. An older one costs less but keeps falling at much the same rate, so there's no single 'bargain age': buy on price and condition, not on timing.
Is the BMW 4 Series reliable?
In our read, the BMW 4 Series scores 55 out of 100 on brand reliability. That still varies by generation and how the individual car was looked after, so always check the service history before you commit.
What should I expect to pay for a used BMW 4 Series with a given mileage?
It depends on the exact variant, age and mileage — a higher-mileage car should ask less. Use the price modeller on this page to get a fair-price range for a specific age and mileage, so you know what to offer.
Where do these BMW 4 Series figures come from?
They're worked out from current used-BMW 4 Series listings in Singapore — asking prices, mileage and registration years — not past transaction prices. We refresh them regularly, and we flag thin data rather than guess.
